Founder: Sherry Davis / Enterprise: Rehema Cultural Arts CIC / Discipline: Cultural heritage & preservation / Location: London
More about their enterprise:
Rehema Cultural Arts partner with cultural institutions to decolonise their collections relating to African history.
Sherry, the founder, is a musician, filmmaker and curator. She has curated an exhibition ‘Ode to the Ancestors’ at the Horniman Museum in South London that explores historic images and stories of African archaeologists.
Ode to Ancestors is reclaiming Sherry’s family’s history, inspired by her grandfather Karisa Ndurya. Karisa played an important role excavating ancient monuments in Kenya from the 1940s to 70s, but his name – along with those of his peers – is nowhere to be found at the sites. Ode to the Ancestors seeks to uncover and celebrate those whose work remains unrecognised.
