Founder: Vivienne Isebor / Enterprise: ADHD Babes / Discipline: Multidisciplinary Arts/ Location: London
More about their enterprise:
The intersectional impact of being a black woman or non-binary person with ADHD has unique disadvantages that ADHD Babes aims to address through specialist support, tailored arts based workshops and community-centred outreach.
Research shows that black women are routinely underdiagnosed and late diagnosis is linked with increased prevalence of other comorbid mental health issues, including depression and anxiety disorders.
By creating a community and providing tools, learning and healing spaces, ADHD Babes want to inspire people to redefine how we understand ADHD – to tackle its difficulties and utilise its strengths. A completely equity led group run by Disabled Black folk, they’ve created an accessible platform and safer spaces to connect, learn and break down the barriers that restrict their community from gaining and understanding a diagnosis of ADHD. In doing this, they want to help to create a society that embraces neurodiversity. They’re raising awareness and educating people on the truth and reality of how ADHD affects neurodivergent people, and how best to support them.
Started by Vivienne as a Facebook group because she felt she didn’t fit into ADHD spaces, ADHD Babes has turned into a community of over 180 members reaching over 1000 babes to date.
