Founder: Kanaiza Onalu / Enterprise: Kanaiza / Discipline: Visual Arts / Location: London
More about their enterprise:
Raised in the buzzing East African city of Nairobi and now also an East London native, Kanaiza Onalu draws heavily from her experiences as a member of two very different worlds and societies with their own set of rules and subcultures. She enjoys starting initiatives and venturing on paths that are new and break against the expected grain, taking those around her with her.
Born from the desire to experience diverse storytelling and expression, Kanaiza started as a digital gallery on Instagram in 2019. It has now grown into an international ecosystem comprising over 67,000 members, designed to nurture black creatives and storytellers.
Respected and revered as an international tastemaker and advocate for inclusive economic black art, Kanaiza crafts visually striking brand campaigns and community experiences. Partnerships have included an eclectic mix of organisations ranging from Do The Green Thing, Uber, and Christie’s Auction House.
Powered by its thriving art-loving community and exceptional creative talent pool, Kanaiza serves the growing demand for culturally nuanced storytelling.
