Founder: Urja Desai Thakore / Enterprise: Pagrav Dance Company / Discipline: Dance/ Location: Milton Keynes
More about their enterprise:
Established in 2005 by Urja, the Milton Keynes-based company promotes kathak, invigorating the form with modern context and renewed presentation, while encouraging new thinking and understanding of the discipline.
Urja is passionate about carving new paths for Indian dance in the UK dance ecology and seeing a greater proportion of Global Majority artists in mainstream dance programmes.
Pagrav’s youth ensemble provides a supportive platform for emerging dancers and, since 2016, has been touring the UK with Aunusthan, an evening of classical work.
Current productions from the main company include:
Kattam Katti, commissioned By Sadlers Wells, transports you to Uttarayan, the world-famous kite-flying festival where millions of Indians from different cities, religions and social classes flock to Gujarat to mark the oncoming of spring.
Deva, an outdoors performance piece presenting the complexities of British Asian identity, whilst challenging the myths and expectations of the South Asian body in Indian classical dance.
